A very windy day

This weekend we celebrated the final completion of our beach hut with a family picnic and get together. Mike and my Dad have built the most amazing hut that is totally windproof, storage areas to house the entire family's possessions and comes complete with fully fitted kitchen. The only thing that is missing is the whirlpool bath and American fridge freezer. It was exceedingly windy on the beach and having persuaded all my family to come down telling them the weather was going to be ok and then accusing everyone of being such soft townies, I felt obliged to then brave the wind in my shorts. Eventually I finally sucumbed to layering on various tops in an effort to stay warm still remaining cheerily optomistic that is was still sunny and that the wind would finally drop when the tide came in.

The windy weather however did provide perfect conditions for a spot of kite flying and so we dusted down Mikes stunt kite and set to for some serious airtime. I have to say I was very impressed with my brother Jon's very laid back approach as he took the ropes and leaned so very casually against the groynes and flew the kite with so much ease and grace that it just danced about in the air. Mike showed off with a variety of dives and spins and at one point held the kite perfectly still above his head just hovering. Not one for standing on the sidelines, I took to the ropes myself only to find the pull of the kite so much stronger that first percieved and my attempts at even doing any kind of trick were pathetic and totally sabotaged by the wind. So the windy day did prove to be a success and Charlie even joined in with his own windy renditions and bubble blowing.

Our Giant Boy

Yes, as this photo demonstrates our lovely boy seems to be growing at an alarming rate we are both sure he will be towering above me before he hits his first birthday and entering the guinness book of records for thet biggest 3 month old in history. He is changing so fast and is such a happy chap constantly smiling and laughing, he is such fun to be around.
We have had a great weekend with our friends Jane and Giovanni and Luca who came down for lunch. Despite the blustery weather we still managed a very blowy walk along the seafront and back through the town, picking up fresh bread for our lunch on the way. We managed to consume the best part of a whole organic smoked salmon that Mike and I have discovered down at the fish market and have taken a bit of a fancy to. It really is the best smoked salmon I have ever eaten and we just can't get enough of it. It was great day catching up with our lovely friends.

A Seafood Treat

This weekend, my parents kindly offered to babysit young Charlie so Mike and I could have our first night out. I was very excited and immediately rang the best restuarant in Whitstable hoping they had a table. They did and so Monday night we set off to Wheelers, mouths watering at the thought of all their scrummy food. We have been to Wheelers several times over the last couple of years but I have been pregnant for all of those times and consequently couldn't ever have the full choice of their amazing menu. This time however, it was almost impossible to choose. I eventually plumped for thier fabulous crab cake with a citrus dressing and a lobster thermidor tart with fresh asparagus, all washed down with an ice cold bottle of champagne. Perfect.
