The Good Life
It's official. Mike and I have become Tom and Barbara (although Mike says I am really more like Margo as he thinks I am part of the net curtain brigade) Our journey to self sufficiency has taken another giant leap when we found out that our names had come to the top of the allotment list. Saturday morning we took a look at the 30 foot square piece of land we now have which will eventually yield all of our fruit and veg.
The great thing about the allotment is that is also located right next to the cemetery where Ruby is so we will be able to grow tons of flowers and then just walk down the hill to visit her. We feel we have put in enough ground work at home with our amateur attempts at growing a small selection of greens and this year I am very proud of the carrots which have overtaken last years very stumpy crop. Ruby's sunflowers have also faired better from planting in the ground and the immense amount of rain and produced an amazing and constant supply of beautiful tall red flowers.
The allotment does need a fair bit of work before it is ready to plant so we will have to wait until next year, however, we did spy 4 mature apple trees laden with fruit and immediately Mike was putting in plans for some cider making and getting very exited. Here come the hangovers.....
